Originally called the “Don’t Make a Wave Committee,” the group evolved into Greenpeace Foundation in 1972. In 2011, Vancouver’s mayor officially declared September 15 as Greenpeace Day to commemorate its legacy.

Greenpeace has since grown into a global organization with offices in over 55 countries and millions of supporters. Its campaigns address climate change, deforestation, overfishing, plastic pollution, and more.
